Roya Sharifian, MD

I grew up in Aurora, Illinois but moved to Bellevue, Washington during middle school. My interest in family medicine started as a kid when I realized my family medicine doctor gave me a lollipop after every visit. My desire to pursue the medical field was solidified after I encountered the lack of access to healthcare in the setting of immense poverty while visiting family in China and realizing that communities at home also suffered from the same disparities. I graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a degree in Physiology and spent 2 gap years doing research on the epigenetics of kidney disease, scribing and volunteering. I was fortunate to attend University of Washington Medical School where there was special focus placed on the importance of primary care.

Through the WWAMI program, I was able to experience the breadth of family medicine from rural to urban and found that I particularly enjoyed full spectrum care. I decided to pursue family medicine because I valued longitudinal relationships with patients, and I seemed to like to do a bit of everything. I am particularly passionate about preventative medicine, women’s health, obstetrics and working with communities who have been left behind by our healthcare system.

I am so excited to be a part of the Valley Family Medicine Residency Program and look forward to learning from everyone how we can best serve our community. I enjoy playing violin and hope to join a community orchestra someday. I also like: baking, crocheting, swimming and exploring all the Pacific Northwest has to offer! Oh, and I love cats!
